1....Babylon Spain

2....Persia

France
3....Greece Great Britain
4....Rome United States

Around 517 B.C., Daniel the Prophet was given a preview of the last quarter of Jewish and world history right up to the First and Second Comings of the Messiah....He saw four great Empires that would rise and rule the world.

The first vision of the four empires was presented under the type of a huge statue of a man with four different metals corresponding to the four empires (Daniel chapter 2).

(1) Babylon was the head of gold
(2)

Medo-Persia was the breast and arms of silver

(3) Greece was the belly and thighs of brass
(4) Rome was the legs and toes of iron and clay

These four empires were again presented to him in a vision but this time as wild beasts (Daniel chapter 7):

(1) Babylon as a lion with eagle’s wings
(2) Medo-Persia as a bear with 3 ribs in its mouth
(3) Greece as a leopard with four heads and four wings
(4) Rome as a nondescript wild beast: dreadful, terrible, strong exceeding, iron teeth, nails of brass, crushing, devouring and breaking everything in its path.

The First Empire was the Babylonian Empire

The hanging gardens of Babylon was one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world.

The first Empire, Babylon, was founded by King Nebuchadnezzar, best known for his hanging gardens - one of the 7 wonders of the world.

The Second Empire was the Persian Empire

Cyrus the Great, King of Persia.

Cyrus the Great, King of Persia.

Cyrus the Great, founder of the Medo-Persian Empire. He issued the famous decree allowing the Jews to return and re-build the Temple in 457 B.C. The first great clash between the ram and he-goat (Persia and Greece) occurred about 410 B.C., at the Battle of Marathon. This is where the marathon race originated.

The Third Empire was the Greek  or Macedonian Empire

Alexander the Great.

Alexander the Great.

Alexander the Great, founder of the Greek Empire was symbolized as a leopard with 4 wings. Upon his death his empire was divided up among his four generals: Cassander ruled Greece, Lysimachus ruled Asia Minor, Seleucus, ruled Syria and Babylon, and Ptolemy ruled Egypt. Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, was descended from this dynasty.

This Empire gave the world a universal language. Christ is derived from the Greek word Christos meaning anointed.

The Fourth Empire was the Roman Empire

Julius Caesar

Julius Caesar

Julius Caesar was the founder of the fourth beast: Imperial Rome....Rome was a Republic like the United States and the very idea of a king was repugnant to the Roman Senate who finally got rid of him by assassination....Shakespeare wrote a famous play about his life.

Caesar was assassinated on the IDES of March (full moon) as the Roman Senate considered it a very lucky time to get rid of a dictator.

Imperial Rome was indeed a killer unparalleled in human history. War was their business and passion. Julius Caesar was reported to have killed over 1 million Celts in his conquest of Gaul alone.

Imperial Rome was a military State

Imperial Roman soldiers

Imperial Rome did not have an army . . . it was an army. Everything was subservient to the military who controlled all aspects of life. The army even appointed the Emperor.... The famous Roman roads, the aqueducts, the baths, the infamous Coliseum, etc., etc. were all built by them.  From the cradle to the grave Rome was a military state that lived by the sword.

Rome was infamous as a TAX collector They used the revenue of conquered countries to hire more mercenaries in order to invade more countries. The Messiah was born in Bethlehem during the world-wide taxing of Augustus Caesar:

"And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed" (Luke 2: 1).

This was most probably held in the Springtime as most of the money would go to support the military and armies always began their campaigns of conquest in the Spring.

Medo-Persian 457 B.C. 332 B.C.
Greece 332 B.C. 30 B.C.
Imperial Rome 30 B.C. 476 A.D.

Around 30 B.C., Julius Caesar conquered Egypt (or rather Egypt conquered Julius Caesar) and this was the official beginning of the reign of the fourth wild beast empire. This was about 70 years before the Messiah began His ministry in the 15th year of Tiberius Caesar, around 27 A.D.

The last 500 years are an exact duplicate of the last quarter of Jewish history!!

The last four empires of prophecy

(1) Spain
(2)

France

(3) Great Britain England, Ireland, Scotland
(4) United States

When the last quarter began at the glorious Reformation, the Spanish Empire ruled the world. This was the largest empire in history. It comprised all the New World: North and South America, the Philippines, the Netherlands, the holy Roman Empire, parts of Italy etc., etc. This was a golden empire indeed considering all the gold that the Conquistadors stole from the Indians of South America.

The first Empire was the Spanish Empire

Philip II of Spain.

Philip II of Spain.

Philip II of Spain typified the Spanish Empire. Like Nebuchadnezzar, he was an absolute autocrat and persecutor of God's people. Like Neb, he made the furnace 7 times hotter in his mad rage against the Reformed Christians. He was behind the ill-fated "invincible Armada" of 1588.

However, the scepter slipped from Spain’s hands because she bitterly opposed the Reformation. Hundreds of thousands of Protestants perished by fire and sword of the Inquisition led by Ignatius LIEola....As in ancient Babylon the furnace was heated 7 times hotter for the believers (Dan ch. 3).

Spain received a deadly blow at the time of the Spanish Armada (1588) from which she never recovered.

The Second Empire was the French Empire

After the 30 Years' War in Europe, (16181648) France emerged as the next great power. Reformed Christians were given a measure of relief from persecution by the Peace of Westphalia. French influence in the world reached its height during this time. France acquired vast possessions in Canada, a large part of the present day United States, colonies in North Africa, the Far East and especially Vietnam.

Cardinal Richelieu

Cardinal Richelieu

Napoleon Bonaparte

Napoleon Bonaparte

Louis XIV

Louis XIV

Cardinal Richelieu, Napoleon Bonaparte, Louis XIV., were some of the outstanding rulers of the French Empire.

France was the most influential country in the world right up to the time of Napoleon and Waterloo. After Waterloo, French hegemony began to decline.

The Third Empire was the British Empire

France was replaced on the world stage by Great Britain. The British Empire was the largest in the world since the Spanish. The sun never set on this Empire.....Hibernia was a vital part of Great Britain from about 1801 to 1945.

Just as the third empire Greece gave the world a universal language, so Great Britain gave the world the incomparable English language and above all the universal dissemination of the English authorized King James Bible.

Queen Victoria (reigned from 1837-1901).

Queen Victoria (reigned from 1837-1901).

Her Royal Highness Queen Victoria was Queen of Great Britain and Empress of India. She was descended from the dynasty founded by St. Columba and was crowned on the "Stone of Destiny" or Lia Fail which he brought from Hibernia. Her reign of 63 years and 7 months was the longest of any British monarch.

Australia and New Zealand were colonized by subjects of her gracious majesty Queen Victoria. Africa was explored and opened up to the outside world by great Scots such as David Livingstone.

The Victorian era was the greatest era of exploration and discovery in history. The greatest advances in human knowledge took place during this brief span of 130 years. The Grecian empire was symbolized by a leopard with wings - a very swift animal. The invention of the steam engine by James Watt (another great Scot) gave wings to the British Empire and speeded the civilization of the entire world.

During the reign of her Majesty Queen Victoria there occurred one of the greatest fulfillment of Bible prophecy in history, namely the Fall of the Papal States in 1870.

Great Britain ruled 1/4 of the globe in 1914

In 1914, the British Empire encompassed almost a quarter of the globe!!

Rome, Rockefeller and Roosevelt plotted World War I to destroy the British Empire.

The Fourth Empire is the U.S. Pax Romana

World War II brought about the decline of Great Britain from the world stage and the rise of the fourth and last world empire: the United States.

The founders of the U.S., like the ancient Romans, were Republicans and hated kings and dictators. Our founding fathers wanted no foreign entanglements with any nation. They envisioned a benevolent empire bringing the blessings of peace to the world . . . not a malevolent destructive empire!!

They were a brave, practical, industrious, inventive, and above all great builders. Most of the original founders of the U.S. and most of the soldiers that fought for liberty during the Civil War

were Protestants by religion.

After the Fall of the Papal States in 1870 the Roman Empire in Europe was reduced to nothing. At that time, Emperor Pius IX ordered his minions to move to America and take over that great country.

Taking advantage of the chaos caused by the Great Depression and WW II, the U.S. government was hijacked by an alien force. The country became like Imperial Rome, a brutal military dictatorship....

Atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan.

Atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan.

The fourth wild beast made her dreadful debut upon the world stage in 1945 with the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. During the Korean War, General MacArthur wanted to nuke China.

In 1954, the U.S. was about to nuke the Vietnamese fighting for their independence from the French. Many times during the Cold War, the Soviet Union was threatened with annihilation by nuclear weapons.

Remember Daniel said that the fourth empire would be

"Dreadful and terrible . . . strong exceeding . . . iron teeth . . . crushing, devouring, breaking everything in its path......"(Dan. 7:7).

Ever since World War II, the country has been in a state of cold war with the former Soviet Union and hot wars with Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Somalia, Iraq and now the naked aggression against Yugoslavia. God only knows how many were murdered by the U.S. since the end of WW II.

In Vietnam alone, 2 millions Buddhists were murdered by the U.S. military. Millions have perished in Iraq since that war began almost a decade ago.

Just like Imperial Rome, the military has virtual control of all aspects of life - the President, Senate, Congress, Supreme Court, Judiciary, TV, newspapers, radio, Hollywood, schools, universities, etc., etc. Over half of all taxes collected (300 billion dollars) goes to the Pentagon and its budget is GROWING!!

American imperialism is not just confined to the military. The most important is dollar imperialism, followed by economics, big business, all branches of the media Hollywood, TV, newspapers, radio etc., etc. Even the most basic necessities of life like food and drink are included (McDonalds and Coca-Cola) and the millions killed by the deadly weed called cigarettes.

Just like the 4 ancient empires, the movement of these empires was always westward ho! - like the journey of the sun through the sky....Hitler tried to upset God's map but he ended up a miserable failure!!

The good news is that Daniel saw a stone cut out without hands that smote the image on the feet and ground it to powder. This is the Second Coming of Christ and we can confidently expect that the U.S. will be last brutal world empire before time ends and eternity begins.

"Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out without hands, and it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure" (Daniel 2:45).

The Last Judgment:

"I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened" (Daniel 7:9-10).

Even so come quickly Lord Jesus (Rev. 22.19).

Imperial Rome was described by Daniel as dreadful, terrible, iron teeth, crushing, breaking everything in its path....Its counterpart is no different....This is nothing new under the sun.
